CNC machine cutting has been used for many decades for accuracy and control, allowing for factories to function quickly and efficiently without the necessity for constant human intervention; visit Cam Machine to find out more. CNC machine cutting allows for accurate cuts to be made on all types of material, plasma cutting being one of the most advanced forms of CNC and CAD manufacture.
Plasma cutters work by sending an electric arc through gas; this gas can be nitrogen, oxygen, argon, shop air, etc., the gas then being passed through a constricted opening. The gas is elevated in temperature in plasma cutting to the point where it enters the 4th state of matter. This additional 4th state is known by scientists as plasma, and is preceded by the three more common states that are solid, liquid, and gas.
Plasma CNC machine cutting is possible as the part being cut is made of metal, the electrical conductivity of the plasma causing the arc to transfer on to the piece that is being worked on. The gas in its plasma state is passed at high speed through a restricted opening that is known as a nozzle. The gas in its plasma state is passed through at a speed that can be compared to air being passed through a venturi in a carburettor. The plasma is also directed around the perimeter of the area being cut, forming a shield.
In recent years there have been many advanced in plasma cutting in the same way that there has been in all types of CNC machine cutting. The most advanced plasma cutters now use a pilot arc which is situated between the electrode and the nozzle, this arc used to ionise the gas. Other methods for cutting metal used include touching the tip of the torch to create a spark and the use a high frequency circuity that is similar to a spark plug; these two methods however are very primitive when compared with modern CNC plasma cutting.
CNC plasma cutters are capable of fully automating the shape production process of the part in question. The first CNC machines used in the history of CNC used a tape with holes punched in it to provide the necessary instructions to the computer. By today’s standards this method is very primitive and this method has now become extinct and replaced by specifically designed CAD computers or specially adapted personal computers using the most advanced CAD software that controls the machines in question. Specifically designed computers used for only CNC are costly, and these are found in large and well developed industries; personal computers are used for CNC in small businesses or even in the home of the individual enthusiast.
Plasma cutting by CNC machine cutting allows for the cutting of material without having to touch it, the shapes, cuts, and designs being arranged on the computer screen before cutting commences. Modern plasma cutters can create any shape your desire, and an almost unlimited amount of cuts in a piece of metal. Further advances in CNC machining and plasma cutting are being discovered on virtually daily basis, CNC having changed the face of the not just the factory floor but the manufacturing industry worldwide.
