Computer Aided Machine Employment Opportunities

Computer aided machine employment opportunities are everywhere you turn your head. Computer aided manufacturing uses robotics and heavy machinery to increase quality and precision whilst lowering the overall cost of mass production of goods. Careers in computer aided machine operation with companies such as Cam Machine  are available in many sectors, some allowing for entry at training level, others for those who are already highly qualified.

Computer Aided Machine Employment: Machinists

A machinist will work with CNC machinery to manufacture parts for the metal and automotive industry such as screws and bolts. A machinist will spend time programming the machines to ensure efficiency and safety. Other machinists may specialise in the maintenance of CNC machines. Entry level to become a machinist requires no educational background, and programmes are also available at community colleges. Many will choose to train on the job as an apprentice. An apprenticeship may last anything up to five years. As there is constant growth in the sector, prospects are good, and a trained machinist will earn far more than the minimum wage.

Tool and Die Makers

A tool maker will design and make tools for use in CNC. They will also be responsible for machine maintenance. Die makers casts dies, which are moulds that are used in the cutting and shaping of plastic and metal. Once again, training is available both at colleges and on the job, and apprenticeships will last up to five years. A tool and die maker will earn slightly more per hour than a standard machinist.

Plastic and Metal Machine Workers

Employment in computer aided machinery in the plastic and metal sector will include the set up as well as the operation of CNC machinery. Workers will run tests on machinery as well as carrying out basic repairs. Monitoring of machinery is also part of their job. The plastic and metal machine worker will earn a basic wage that is equivalent to that of most production occupations.

Higher paid workers are those that work within the sector of precious stones and metals. The salary for jewellery and stone workers is around $35,000 a year in the US. It should however be noted that demand for stone workers is not on the increase in the same way that it is for other CAM sectors.

If you are looking for a change in career, and looking for an opportunity where on the job training is given, then a career in CNC is a good option. Although no educational background is necessary, to work in CNC you are required to have both an interest in technology as well as in design. Competition for jobs is high due to the respectable wages that can be earned once training is complete.

For more information on jobs within the CNC industry and computer aided machine design, contact your local college or visit local precision engineering companies. CNC is a growing industry and one that can provide a stable employment that will come hand in hand with a wage that is above the national minimum.
